Broadband Internet Connection
Broadband Internet Connections are done through a Broadband Modem. Their are three main types of broadband modems that you may get, a cable modem, a dsl modem or a Satellite Modem. DSL stands for digital subscriber line and is run through your phone lines and require a special modem you can put a phone line into, while cable modems use the same wires as your cable TV.
DSL modems and Satellite Modems usually require a user name and password to access the Internet. Cable modems don't usually require a user name or password but instead use a MAC address which is a unique ID given to each modem created, they must call the provider they have chosen to give the MAC address to activate the modem on the providers servers.
Cable modems, DSL modems and Satellite Modems are usually rented by the provider to you and could increase the monthly amount on your bill. There are many types of modems available and if you plan on staying with a provider for an extended period of time it may be best to purchase a modem. Many rebates are available for modems and its possible to get one for free with some promotions.
