What is a Cable Internet Connection?

Cable Internet Connections

A Cable Internet Connection is a technology that provides digital data transmission over your current local television cables. Cable modems have made high speed internet available to almost anywhere there is a live cable television hook up.

Cable internet connection download speeds can range from 3Mbit/s to 30Mbit/s and upload speeds range from 384 kbit/s to 6 Mbit/s or more. Few companies try to go beyond offering more than the traditional home and business needs.

In the case of price competition in Internet access prices and speeds caused their fees to drop significantly making Cable more economical than dial up access. Cable internet can be susceptible to slowdowns during peak hours and if your neighborhood has many cable internet connection subscribers as you share the bandwidth with the people on your node.

Many cable internet connection companies today are reluctant to offer just high speed internet without a packaged Cable TV package. There are some cable internet providers who resell access from cable companies, such as Earthlink, are generally not subject to these higher rates.
